Practical Issues in Equity Analysis Biographies
 Paul R. Brown is chair of the department of Accounting, Taxation, and Business Law at New York Universityis Stern School of Business. He has also worked as an auditor for Arthur Andersen & Company and as a staff member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Financial Statement Analysis. Professor Brown is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Accounting Association. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

  Aswath Damodaran is associate professor of finance at the New York University Stern School of Business. Previously, he served as a visiting professor at the University of California at Berkeley. In 1994, Business Week magazine selected Professor Damodaran as one of the top 12 business school professors in the United States. He has published numerous articles and authored several books on equity valuation and corporate finance. Professor Damodaran holds an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles.

  David N. Dreman is chair, chief investment officer, and founder of Dreman Value Management, L.L.C. In his 20-year career as an investment advisor and security analyst, Mr. Dreman has served as director of New York research for Rauscher Pierce Refsnes Securities Corporation, as senior investment officer with J.&W. Seligman & Company, and as a senior editor with the Value Line Investment Office. He has authored a number of books, including Contrarian Investment Strategies: The Next Generation, and has published articles in various finance journals.

  Philip S. Fortuna is a managing director of Scudder Kemper Investments, where he is director of the quantitative group. Previously, Mr. Fortuna was director of investment operations, director of quantitative services, and an institutional portfolio manager. Prior to joining Scudder, he served as a strategic planning officer for Crocker National Corporation and as an investment officer for Crocker Investment Management Corporation. Mr. Fortuna holds a B.S. in economics from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

  M. Campbell Gunn is chief investment officer, Japan, of Meiji Dresdner Asset Management, a joint-venture company of Dresdner RCM. He was previously chief investment officer, Asia, of Dresdner RCM and has served as a member of a New York hedge fund group specializing in Asian equities, as managing director at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and as director of Banque Kleinwort Benson SA Geneva. Mr. Gunn holds a B.A. in Jurisprudence from New College, Oxford, and is a Barrister of Law of the Inner Temple.

  Richard H. Lawrence, Jr., CFA, is chair and managing director for Overlook Investments Limited, where he serves as chief investment officer for The Overlook Partners Fund LP, a limited partnership founded in 1992 to invest in publicly listed Asian equities. Previously, he served as vice president of F.P. Special Assets Ltd. and vice president of J. Bush & Company. Mr. Lawrence holds a B.A. in economics from Brown University.

  Gary S. Schieneman is a vice president responsible for comparative global equity analysis at Merrill Lynch & Company. His work is sector oriented and identifies appropriate financial criteria for comparing companies on a cross-border basis. Mr. Schieneman also worked as director of Latin American research and as the Latin American strategist at Smith New Court and as a global accounting analyst with Prudential Securities, where he identified and explained accounting issues that affect comparative market and specific company valuation. Previously, Mr. Schieneman was a C.P.A. and partner in the International Service Group at Arthur Young, where he served as the expert on international accounting issues.

  Barney Wilson is an equity research analyst and vice president at Putnam Investments; he is a technology and beverage analyst in global equity research. Prior to joining Putnam, Mr. Wilson worked in corporate finance at Robertson, Stephens & Company, where he focused on technology companies. Mr. Wilson holds a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Virginia, a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, and an M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley.

  Kent L. Womack is associate professor of finance at the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College. His research interests focus on the value of security analysis, security analystsi conflicts of interest, and the underwriting of initial public offerings. Some of his recent studies have been published in the Journal of Finance, the Wall Street Journal, and the Economist. Professor Womack holds a Ph.D. in finance from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, a B.A. in economics and mathematics from Yale University, and an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
